We believe that it is important to draw attention to gender issues and ensure women&#8217;s representation in the political process. Our organization&#8217;s participation in this event highlights our commitment to creating an equal society and supporting gender equality.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">An extended meeting of the Council on the Rights of Women, Children and Gender Equality under the Jogorku Kenesh of the Kyrgyz Republic was held on June 5, 2023.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">The analysis on the &#8220;Gender Assessment of the Jogorku Kenesh of the Kyrgyz Republic&#8221; was presented.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">This analysis was based on the request of the Jogorku Kenesh of the Kyrgyz Republic in partnership with the OSCE Program Office in Bishkek in 2022-2023.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The Jogorku Kenesh Gender Assessment was led by ODIHR experts with the participation of the ODIHR National Consultant and included the collection and analysis of quantitative and qualitative data, including information from questionnaires, reports, legal documents, interviews and focus groups. A desk study was conducted on the status of women in politics in Kyrgyzstan and efforts made to increase the number of women parliamentarians. As part of it, the Parliament also provided some data and answered a semi-structured questionnaire.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The analysis showed that women&#8217;s representation in parliament has fluctuated over the past 20 years, peaking at 26 percent after the 2007 parliamentary elections. Since then, there has been a noticeable decline. At the time of the gender assessment (October\/November 2022), there were 19 women MPs in Parliament, representing 21 per cent of the total number of MPs.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Article 4 (9) of the Jogorku Kenesh Rules of Procedure provides for representation of no more than 70% of persons of the same gender in Jogorku Kenesh bodies. In practice, there are significantly fewer women in leadership positions in the current Parliament.
